Harold Neville South. He was born in the last quarter of 1885 in Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales, to Walter Lewis, a newspaper clerk born about 1830 in Glamorganshire, and Marianna (nee Saunders; she had been born about 1828 in Monmouthshire) South, who had married in the third quarter of 1883 at Cardiff in Wales. In 1901, he lived at Newport Road in the parish of St. John the Baptist in East Cardiff with his grandparents Henry and Margaret Saunders. There was a servant in the household as well, Catherine Crowley, 29 (of Irish birth). He married Elsie Marion Roberts in the third quarter of 1908 in Barton upon Irwell in Lancashire. He was an actor in Lawrence Irving’s company. They had three children, Honor M. N., born in 1913 and two others whose names are not immediately known.
